Marianne (Rooth) Harling

Marianne Harling (nee Rooth), the bursar's daughter, attended 6th form lessons in 1940. She was the first girl to do so. She also took part in concerts and plays. There are no photos of her at Canford; this is when she went up to Oxford.

Donated by JR Fellowes-Prynne (F49) At least a few of the group of fifteen are in Franklin. The pupils are Shells or at least quite young. The photo is labelled 'S.M.C.R. + Rose'. The only Rose in the school in the 1940s was in Salisbury, so SMCR could be Salisbury Middle Common Room but it is not a term I know.
