An illustration mounted onto paper with the inscription: John of Gaunt's Kitchen at Great Canford, Vol. III P.9. T. Rackett del Js Basire sculp. There is a label with the illustration that reads: This Plate from Hutchins' History of Dorset appeared only in the 2nd Edition, published about 1800. It has obvious affinities with Hooper's engraving of this subject, dated 1786; but although James Basire was a notable line engraver of the 18th century, the engraving by the little known Hopper is the more attractive and more accomplished performance.
