An illustration mounted onto paper with the inscription: John of Gaunt's Kitchen at Great Canford, Vol. III P.9. T. Rackett del Js Basire sculp. There is a label with the illustration that reads: This Plate from Hutchins' History of Dorset appeared only in the 2nd Edition, published about 1800. It has obvious affinities with Hooper's engraving of this subject, dated 1786; but although James Basire was a notable line engraver of the 18th century, the engraving by the little known Hopper is the more attractive and more accomplished performance.

January 2, 1923 Letter from Percy Warrington defending choice of name, saying it derives from Lord Wimborne, not the adjoining town. It was published on Jan 11th 1786 by J. Hopper. The buildings are referred to as "part of the offices of the ancient mansion of lords of the manor of Great Canford.
