Speech Day by Antony Hopkins
BX02-33
Musical piece for orchestra and chorus commissioned for the 60th anniversary celebrations in 1983.
Written by Antony Hopkins (1921-2014) well-known broadcaster and musician who conducted it on the day.
Hopkins had given a talk to the Canford Music Society in 1981/2 entitled 'Talking about music' - the same name as his long running radio programme on Radio 3) which hadn't gone down well as it contained too much poor piano playing and too little talking. That clearly hadn't prevented his being commissioned a year later.
One hand written full score (+ a larger loose leaf photo copy which was presumably used by the conductor).
One vocal/paino score.

Donated by David Pattison who writes:
Front page of Daily Mirror dated June 19 1981 which features a large photo of Lady Diana at Ascot being challenged for her credentials and beside her, James de Candole (immaculately dressed for the occasion as befits a Monteacutian) but with a fag on for which I fined him the requisite fiver.
