However, since then we have been able to bathe nearly every day right through the term. During the spell of very hot weather early in July bathing was much appreciated by all. There have been a large, number of learners this term, all of whom have made good progress. We were for tunatein having no epidemic and great keen-ness has been shown in practising for the sports. It was unfortunate that part of the sluice gates broke off about the middle of the term as this hindered the practising for the high dive. The reeds, too, had to be cut on several occasions, but on the whole the pool has not been so choked as last year. The sports were held on Friday and Saturday, July 23rd and 24th. Friday was an almost ideal day, warm and sunny with scarcely any wind, but on Saturday it rained nearly all the time. School House started well by winning the senior one length, and after the first event or two they kept the lead on points right up to the end. We con-gratulate them on winning the cup. The best race on Friday was the 150yards open, Harris winning it for Franklin with Page and Hughes not far behind. On the second day the " underwater "proved the most interesting event. Keily again won it with a much better swim than last year. Richards and Mayers, mi., who came in second and third respectively, both swam well but were not so successful in the direction—both of them turning towards the bank. The length of Keily's swim was about fifty yards. General Morris, Commander G. A.Matthew, R.N., and Mr. T. J. Meaby very kindly came over to judge the events, whilst Mr. W. F. Mugford, of Bournemouth, kindly consented to judge the diving. Our thanks are due not only to these, but also to all those who helped to make the sports a success. At the conclusion of the second day' sevents. Mrs. Meaby, who had very kindly come over for the purposes presented the cup to this year's holders, namely School House, who led by seven points.
