In December 2023, the Canford Sphere was officially unveiled. The sphere was created by award-winning sculptor Zoe Wilson to commemorate the Canford Centenary. To celebrate this, we took a look back through the archives at previous sculptures created by pupils and visiting artists.
In 2007, sculptor Andy Kirkby ran a stone carving course in the Christmas term, with groups of pupils from the Shells to the Upper Sixth. Pupils were shown the basics of carving, and visited the famous Tout Quarry on Portland before embarking on their own pieces. The junior pieces were displayed together to make a large totem, and the senior sculptures were displayed on plinths in an exhibition for pupils and parents to see.
