On the whole, the shooting this term has been fairly successful though not unusually so. In our matches we did not do too badly, but the scores, unfortunately, fell off towards the end. In our annual side-by-side match with Sherborne we came off rather badly against a very good score of 471. We had the good fortune to beat the Christchurch Rifle Club by four points, in the rain. This was quite an achievement, as this club is the champion club of Hampshire.
BISLEY.
Our chief success at Bisley was gained by Bethell winning the Inter-Public Schools Clay-Pigeon Shooting Championship : our rifle shooting was, however, not so successful. In the Ashburton, which was shot in a driving rain, we scored 453,which gained us 29th place. This was a poor score, but the conditions we-re appal-ling, and most of the VIII were slightly stale owing to shooting rather too much the day before. The Cadet Pair scored 109.In the Sunday Times, Porteous had exceptionally bad luck in getting a " double feed " after two shots, and which left him a " comfortable " 20 seconds to get of eight shots instead of having a minute. In the Spencer-Melliah, Patterson scored30, and was unplaced. The awards were made this year as folllows : Ashburton Cup and N.R.A. Medal (for highest score in the Ashburton) : D. C.Russell. English XX Club Jewel (for highest match average): J. B. B. Patterson. Patterson and Delgado both shot consistently well throughout the season; R. L. Porteous had very bad luck in having his rifle break down in the middle ofthe matches ; K. D. Davies shot well, getting a good score in the Ashburton ;G. A. M. Stirling, I. W. C. Cowan, Hepburn and Brand, all shot in the VIII, on the whole well, but inclined to be a trifle erratic. J. H. Bethell and Hook, H., were the Cadet Pair.
