FOR new, current and past parents, as well as Old Canfordians, keeping in touch with the wide range of sport played at Canford can be bewildering.
Friends of Canford Sport is a body that will help to engage parents and the wider Canford community with the breadth and depth of sport at the school. Our purpose is to support the tremendous work undertaken by the Sports Department and all the members of staff and coaches who make the sport at Canford so enjoyable, aspirational and inclusive.
One of the prime aims is to support the school in delivering a great sporting experience for all the youngsters who play for and against Canford. It is hoped that all those who play sport at Canford will develop a lifetime’s passion for sporting activity. We will be actively encouraging positive support for all youngsters involved in matches at Canford.
Committee members meet with new parents in the first few weeks of the new school year to provide help and advice about how best to optimise the sporting calendar. There is a small but interesting programme of sport-based opportunities for the community, ncluding the much-loved ‘Stroll in the Park’, as well as the opportunity to play some of the sports that Canfordians have the chance to explore. The 2016/17 programme will include a taster session of Field Lacrosse and perhaps an introduction to an all-inclusive touch rugby session.
We are keen to have passionate parents involved in the committee’s activities and hope to ensure that we have representation from most if not all sports, boys and girls, as well as from each of the school years.
