Since Canford opened its doors as a new school for the first time in 1923, there has been continued development going on around the school site. At present, the new Sixth Form centre and boarding house is under construction. When the school opened however, a majority of the school was housed in the manor house, with limited use of the buildings elsewhere on site at the time.
Whilst these photos don't show the full school site, obvious differences can be seen, such as the addition of the old Beaufort House which opened in 1930, as well as the emptiness of the surrounding landscape in the first photo. What changes took place at Canford during your time here?
The first image was taken from an aeroplane in 1922 after the sale of the Manor house, the modern image was taken during the Speech Day ceremony 2024.
