As the Art Department is busy preparing its end of year exhibition of GCSE work and the A Level Summer Show, we take a look back at the Art Shows of years gone by. Back in the summer of 1952, the Art School hosted its exhibition on Speech Day (then a weekend long series of events) held in the fives courts (then behind the assembly hall and next door to the Art School), with some larger pieces being displayed outside with the beautiful natural backdrop of the Canford Park woodland. Canford Art students today have a reputation for producing high quality pieces in a huge variety of mediums, and this was no different in 1952, with pupils making use of the Canford trees to create wooden sculptures, and others creating large stone carvings. Work was judged by the Principal of the Bournemouth School of Art with several prizes being awarded for high quality work.
